ATHENS - The Walmart on Lexington Road isn't going away, even if a new store opens in downtown Athens. That's the message from Bill Wertz, a spokesman for the major retailer.

Supporters say Walmarts create jobs and produce tax revenue. Critics say they hurt local economies.
